Wellbeing at Delacombe Primary School
Respectful Relationships
At Delacombe Primary School, we are proud to be a Respectful Relationships school. Respectful Relationships education is about building a culture of respect, inclusion and equality across our whole school community.
Through our weekly wellbeing lessons, students learn how to develop positive friendships, manage emotions, solve problems respectfully and celebrate diversity. These lessons help students build confidence, show empathy and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment.
Respectful Relationships is part of our commitment to helping every student feel safe, valued and ready to learn at Delacombe Primary School.

Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHIPS)
Starting in 2025, Delacombe Primary School is proud to introduce a new initiative focused on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our school community.
Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. Amalfi are taking on the roles of Mental Health and Wellbeing Leaders, working towards strengthening support for students through a whole-school approach. This includes building staff capacity, implementing evidence based practises, connecting with external services and creating clear care pathways.
This is an important step in our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing - continuing to make our school a great place to grow, achieve and succeed.

School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB)
At Delacombe Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. Our Positive Behaviour approach promotes respect, growth, kindness and resilience in all aspects of school life.
Students are encouraged to make positive choices, show kindness, and take pride in their learning and actions. We celebrate positive behaviours through our Delacombe Dollars system, assemblies, and classroom recognition systems. By working together, we ensure that our school is a place where everyone feels valued, connected and ready to succeed.
SWPBS consists of 3 core principles:
1- Clearly defined expectations and behaviours:
At Delacombe Primary School we have SWPB Site Specific Signage throughout. Our signs provide clear and consistent behaviour expectations across all areas of our school. Our behaviour expectations directly link to our 4 school values of Respect, Resilience, Kindness and Growth. These behaviours are explicitly taught and modelled by staff, to students throughout Learning to Learn at the beginning of the year and revisited throughout classroom wellbeing lessons. This consistent approach helps make Delacombe Primary School a safe, positive and welcoming place for everyone. Positive choices are recognised through our Delacombe Dollars and celebrated as part of our whole-school Positive Behaviour Framework.
2- Positive Reinforcement
We celebrate and acknowledge positive behaviour through various means such as verbal praise, student recognition awards, Delacombe Dollars and Classroom incentive systems. By recognizing and reinforcing desired behaviours, we will create a positive atmosphere that encourages students to continue making positive choices.
3- Support and Intervention
For students who may require additional assistance, SWPBS provides a multi-tiered system of support. This means we offer interventions and support strategies tailored to individual needs.
The decision to embrace SWPBS aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for our students, in conjunction with our AIP goals. By implementing SWPBS, we aim to:
-
Foster a positive and inclusive school culture where every student feels valued, respected, and safe.
-
Promote consistency in behaviour expectations and teaching across the entire school community.
-
Encourage a focus on positive behaviours rather than solely reacting to negative ones.
-
Support our students in developing essential social, emotional, and behavioural skills that are crucial for their success in school and beyond.
We believe that by embracing SWPBS, we can create an environment that not only supports academic achievement but also nurtures the overall well-being and growth of each student.

Delacombe Express
Delacombe Primary School prides itself on delivering a consistent approach from Prep-Grade 6 in teaching and learning and wellbeing. The Delacombe Express is used in all classrooms to acknowledge the positive values demonstrated and also to address any negative behaviours that may impact the safety and learning opportunity of others. It is called the “Express” as we use the analogy that students are encouraged to remain on track. If a step is given, students can then return to being on track once they have displayed the appropriate positive behaviour. The Delacombe Express is all about students making good choices and improving their behaviour to provide a positive learning classroom environment

Student Support Services
At Delacombe Primary School, our Student Wellbeing Officers (SWOs) work in partnership with staff, students, and families to support the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of our students.
Staff Referrals
-
Staff have the ability to make a written referral to Assistant Principal P-2 or 3-6, requesting further support for students. The request should include
-
Student name and year level
-
Description of concern or presenting issue
-
Strategies already tried and outcomes
-
Any immediate risks or safety concerns
-
It is up the discretion of the Assistant Principal to allocated the student to a SWO
Parent/carer Referrals
-
Parents and carers can request SWO support for their child, when communicating with their child’s classroom teacher. Once again, this is up the discretion of the Executive team, depending on assessment of risk and availability.
